About Me:
I've been translating for decades: at first mainly literary essays, since 98 mainly texts about the use of ICT in distance training.

Two things I am particularly interested in presently: collaborative translation using wikis or the wiki-like apps and collaborative subtitling.
As to the former, last December, I co-translated over 70 pages last year with two colleagues who live in Kinshasa, using Google Docs & Spreadsheets.
And as to the latter, I have been using both web apps like Mojiti or DotSub.com, and MAGpie to produce SMIL captioning files.

Other info about me in my Digital Divide Network profile and in my CV (in French).

Translation Agencies v/s Direct Clients

Social Networking in Plain English (sous-titres français DotSub)

I sent a message to Ning about this, using the "I'm reporting a bug" form, though it's not really a bug, rather a missing feature. See attached copy. I can't copy-paste in the message because there... Continue

TLAXCALA, The Translators’ Network for Linguistic Diversity

From Tlaxcala's Manifesto:

Tlaxcala, the network for linguistic diversity, was founded on December 2005 by a small group of cyberactivists who knew one another through Internet and discovered that they shared common interests, common dreams and common problems. The network quickly grew, has today 74 members, and translates into 13 languages. This Manifesto, approved by them all, exp… Continue

"Music" box

Actually, 3 out of 4 audio documents in the "music" box on my profile page are spoken. Some further info about each (as what I added in the "further information" part of the descriptions doesn't show):

Hi Claude, how are you :-)

Never mind about the private message.

I haven't been to Japan yet (I'm planning a lightning trip for Feb 08, though!), so I guess it must have been an irremediable attraction to "the completely unknown" (not just the language but the culture itself, the tradition, the people). And oh, yes, now the more I know the more I love it. So addictive!

Regarding your name, I've always had French-speaking friends, so Claude does not sound weird to me at all (I actually like it! Makes me think of Debussy, maybe^^). However "Cruz" reminds me of a Spanish actress that I don't quite like... Besides who'd like to be called "cross" or "croix"??? I still go for Claude! :)

thanks for your comment
"Read you around"!

ps: I promise to "introduce myself" as soon as I'll have a little more time.

Congratulations on your great participation and contributions to this Network. You're really amazing!

Now, I think we should do something about the DotSub embedding code. It's not working, only the French subtitles are visible. Maybe we should contact Ning management...

Claude, welcome to this network, which as you know is the First one of its kind. I am sure we'll develop it together, what do you say to that?

Meanwhile, have you visited its companion blog (you can easily find the link on the Network's main page).

Bienvenue, Claude! Je suis sûr qu'on pourra travailler ensemble au développement de ce network. Il suffit de vous voir pour se rendre compte que vous êtes quelqu'un de bien :-)

Merci et encore une fois, soyez la bienvenue!
